Siciliano's Market News, August 12th, 2022 Edition

Football Season and the 2022 Beer and Wine Making Sale are Right Around the Corner

Preamble by Dan Sipka

It’s officially that time of year. All the signs of summer coming to an end have been showing up, from the more temperate days to the pumpkin and oktoberfest style beers hitting the shelves at the Market. I can’t say I’ve been too excited about it. I love summer and will miss these warm nights. This week’s first episode of ‘Hard Knocks’ on HBO may be changing my mind, however. My beloved team, the Detroit Lions are the team featured in the series this year, and the first episode has gotten me stoked and ready for the fall weather to usher in another Lions football season– hopefully with a better record than the last. Dan Campbell is bringing the grit to Detroit and I believe this team has potential! Also, college football is right around the corner and Mel Tucker and the Spartans are poised for a great season. Go Green!

Maggie is excited too!

The slow signs of the changing seasons are also starting to show up in scheduling and upcoming events at the Market. Beckett and Connor will be headed back to school this fall, so you may start seeing a little less of them in the store as they adjust to their academic hours. We appreciate their hard work, along with the whole Siciliano's staff as of late. We are also looking to add a part timer to our fun, hardworking staff. If you or anyone you know are interested have them reach out to to me at dan@sicilianosmkt.com!

Customer Appreciation Week is also coming up, Monday, September, 5th through Sunday September, 11th. We’ve already started taking pre-orders for winexpert kits, so call the store to place your order and get in on the discounts! You can also email orders to me (dan@sicilianosmkt.com) by Sunday, August 28th, and we will have the kits set aside for you. Check out the updated inventory and pricing on the wine kits and let me know if you have any questions.

During the week-long sale, most equipment, supplies and ingredients will be 15% off the everyday retail price. Items that are already discounted (carboys, 50/55-lb. bags of grain, Blichmann Engineering products) will not be eligible for additional discounts, nor will the 15% be combined with other existing discounts (like club discounts). We will honor the discount that is greater.

Abomination Social Distancing: Isolation, $6.29/16oz- "Social Distancing: Isolation" is a mashup of 2 of our favorite beers from the last two years "Social Distancing" & "Still Social Distancing" and the results are this mind-meltingly juicy and dank DIPA!

Brewed with golden promise, wheat and flaked oats. This hazy monster is then double dry hopped to the gills with one of our most insane blends to date: Mosaic, Enigma, Nelson, Motueka, Strata & Citra.

Arbor Oktoberfest, $2.19/12oz-Our festive amber lager is brewed with ample Pilsner and Munich malts, creating a rich, hearty beer that’s balanced by a clean bitterness and a crisp, dry finish. Prost!

Barclay Vibrations, $5.49/16oz-VIBRATIONS, my version on the New England IPA. This is a single IPA, not an oated to the max lactose bomb, just a simple, clean, bright, and soft IPA with tons of flavor. You can crush these. That’s what it was made for. Each VIBRATIONS will focus on a single hop.

Boulevard Blue Money, $3.79/16oz-A seasonally appropriate IPA featuring the flavor and aroma of blueberries, long associated with North American hop varietals.

Broad Leaf Magnetic Nebula, $4.39/16oz- A West Coast style pale ale brewed with Citra and Sabro. Just the right balance of hops and malt, resin and tropicality, flavorful and drinkable

Founders Ultimate Oktoberfest, $4.59/12oz-Roll out the barrel…the bourbon barrel, that is! We’re taking the classic German-style Marzen and kicking it up a notch by adding the smooth, rich flavors that only nine months in a bourbon barrel can provide! Get out your Lederhosen and prepare for an intense wave of Bavaria Hysteria – Ultimate Oktoberfest is here!

Frankenmuth Oktoberfest, $2.29/12oz- Our medium-bodied Oktoberfest is a southern German style lager, copper in color with a sweet malty flavor. It's brewed using 5 different types of malts and a variety of hops to give it the perfect balance of body, nose, and finish

Grand Armory Pumpkin Slappucino, $2.19/12oz-Deep flavors of espresso and pumpkin spice with a creamy sweet lactose finish.

Left Hand Oktoberfest, $3.09/12oz-This is no festivus for the restivus, on the contrary, we start brewing in the spring and it takes a full two months to reach lagered perfection. Biscuity, malty goodness dominates upfront while the noble pedigree hops lend a properly spicy, dry finish.

Odd Side Pumpkin Spice Bean Flicker, $2.19/12oz-Our original coffee blonde ale with added pumpkin spice.

One Well Barbados Slim, $3.09/16oz-White Grapefruit Sour

Rhinegeist Oktoberfest, $1.99/12oz- Franz is our Oktoberfest beer. He’s an autumnal brew, a bit of a dreamer, often hikes in the Alps and comes back with great ideas for delicious malts and is forever hoisting barrels over his head for ’ze exercize’. Franz is our Oktoberfest brau, and our first take on a German brew. Not traditional, but über German. These malts will PUMP you UP, jaaah!

Sam Adams Oktoberfest, $1.99/12oz-In 1810, the Oktoberfest tradition was born when Munich celebrated the Crown Prince’s wedding with a special beer and 16 day party. Our version of this classic style blends rich malts for a hearty, smooth flavor with notes of caramel creating a brew that’s perfect for the season, or whatever you’re celebrating

Schilling Alexandr, $3.59/16oz- Crisp, clean and sessionable, with a firm but rounded hop backbone, Alexandr is the first and original Czech-style pilsner crafted at Schilling. Authentic raw materials shine, and so will almost any beer-friendly food paired with this Czech-inspired lager.

Shorts Chuggasus, $4.09/12oz-One of our brewers had a dream (seriously!) involving a beer-drinking Pegasus who loves to kick around in northern Michigan in the summer. That dream becomes a reality in Chuggasus, the first ever beer in our Brewniverse Presents series. A place for our brewers dreams to come to fruition, Chuggasus comes out the gate flying fast with a whole lotta haze and a massively tropical hop bill. This DDH IPA is full of passionfruit, orange, and guava flavors thanks to copious amounts of El Dorado and Galaxy Hops. Saddle up, friends.

Surly Oktoberfest, $1.89/12oz-Oktoberfest lagers are the ultimate party beer. Up front, they’re rich, sweet, and malty, but they finish dry and clean with an ever-so-slight touch of hops. Prost!

Surly Pentagram, $3.59/16oz-100% Brettanomyces dark beer, fermented in stainless and aged in used red wine barrels. "Brett" is a unique yeast strain that produces flavors that would be offensive if they weren’t intentional. Flavors of sour cherry, tobacco, oak, and classic "Brett" barnyard funk, balanced by Dark Munich malt chewiness. Enjoy immediately or age at cellar temperature for a couple years

Transient Bottomless, $5.19/16oz
